Trump Announces AI Force and New AI Czar Plan

Trump plans an AI Force and new AI czar to boost US artificial intelligence, economic growth and competition with China.

Trump Announces ‘AI Force’ and Plans to Appoint New AI Czar

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to establish an “AI Force” and appoint a new artificial intelligence czar to oversee the rapid development of the country’s AI industry.

Trump made the announcement in a lengthy social media post, describing artificial intelligence as the “next Industrial Revolution” and emphasizing its importance to US economic growth and global competitiveness.

The president said the new initiative would focus on protecting and advancing the development of artificial intelligence rather than imposing restrictions that could slow the industry.

“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump said, stressing that his administration would support the technology as it expands.

Trump Compares AI Force to Space Force

Trump compared the proposed AI Force with the US Space Force, which was established during his first term as president and became the newest branch of the US military.

However, Trump did not provide detailed information about the proposed AI Force, including its structure, responsibilities or when the new AI czar would be appointed.

The announcement comes after the administration’s previous AI czar, venture capitalist David Sacks, stepped away from the position earlier this year. Sacks subsequently became an external adviser to Trump and currently chairs the president’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

The new AI leadership role could become increasingly important as the United States competes with China to maintain its position as a global leader in artificial intelligence.

Trump Rejects Warnings About AI Risks

Trump’s announcement comes amid growing debate over the potential risks of artificial intelligence.

Technology executives, researchers and policymakers have raised concerns that AI development is progressing faster than safety measures and regulatory frameworks can keep pace.

A researcher at a leading US AI company recently warned that increasingly powerful artificial intelligence systems could pose an extreme threat to humanity. The researcher estimated that there was a greater than 10 percent possibility that AI could eventually cause catastrophic consequences for humanity within the next decade.

Trump dismissed such warnings, describing them as a “hoax” and rejecting the idea that artificial intelligence or robots would take control of the world.

David Sacks has also argued that concerns about AI risks have become exaggerated, describing the growing alarm surrounding the technology as a form of panic.

AI Data Centers Face Growing Opposition

Alongside concerns about AI safety, the rapid expansion of AI data centers has become another major political issue in the United States.

Large data centers require significant amounts of electricity and water to operate the computing infrastructure needed to train and run advanced AI systems. Communities in several parts of the country have raised concerns about increased pressure on local resources and potentially higher electricity costs.

The issue has attracted opposition from residents in both Democratic and Republican areas, including some communities that strongly supported Trump during the 2024 presidential election.

Trump, however, has strongly defended AI data centers and criticized efforts to block their construction.

The president has argued that these facilities can generate economic benefits, including higher-paying jobs, investment and tax revenue. He has also warned that communities rejecting data centers could risk falling behind economically.

US Lawmakers Address Data Center Energy Costs

Concerns over the impact of AI data centers on electricity bills have also reached Congress.

The US House of Representatives recently approved legislation by an overwhelming 417-3 vote aimed at limiting the effect of AI data center electricity consumption on household utility bills.

The vote highlights the growing bipartisan concern over the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure, even as policymakers seek to maintain the United States’ leadership in artificial intelligence.

Trump’s proposed AI Force reflects his broader approach of encouraging technological growth while resisting regulations that he believes could weaken America’s competitiveness.

AI Competition With China

Artificial intelligence is expected to remain a major issue in discussions between the United States and China.

Trump’s upcoming summit in Washington with Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to include discussions about technology, economic competition and AI development.

The United States and China are competing to lead the global artificial intelligence industry, with both countries investing heavily in computing infrastructure, advanced AI models and related technologies.

Trump’s proposed AI Force could therefore become an important part of his administration’s strategy to strengthen US AI development while maintaining a competitive advantage over China.

As artificial intelligence continues to expand into the economy, national security and everyday life, the debate over AI regulation, safety, data centers and economic growth is likely to become increasingly important.
