Yemen Conflict Escalates as Houthis Target Saudi Arabia
The Yemen conflict has intensified as Saudi-led coalition forces launched fresh air strikes against Houthi positions, while Yemen’s internationally recognised government reported new drone attacks against Houthi forces in strategic areas.
The latest escalation comes as the United States continues to express support for Yemen’s internationally recognised government while maintaining diplomatic contact with Houthi representatives in Oman.

Saudi-Led Coalition Carries Out Air Strikes
Yemeni government forces said the Saudi-led coalition targeted Houthi military positions, equipment and outposts around the southwestern port city of Mocha.
Government forces also reported conducting drone attacks against Houthi positions in northern Marib governorate, one of Yemen’s most strategically important regions.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said Saudi aircraft carried out about 40 air strikes over a 24-hour period across Taiz, Marib and Hodeidah.
The Houthis said they responded with attacks against the Khamis Mushait airbase in southern Saudi Arabia and an oil facility in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu.
The claims from both sides have not all been independently verified.
Houthis Claim Saudi Fighter Jet Was Shot Down
The Houthis also claimed that their forces had shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet over Marib.
According to the Houthi military statement, the aircraft was brought down using a locally produced surface-to-air missile.

According to sources familiar with the talks, Houthi representatives told US officials that they had no intention of attacking American vessels.

The talks in Oman could become important as Washington seeks to reduce the risk of attacks against US forces and shipping while continuing to support its regional partners.
Oman has previously played a role in diplomatic efforts involving Yemen and the Houthis.
