Russia-Ukraine War: Strikes Kill 8, Injure Dozens

Russian strikes across Ukraine kill eight and injure dozens, while attacks hit Kharkiv, Sumy, Odesa, Kyiv and other regions.

Russia-Ukraine War: Russian Strikes Kill Eight, Injure Dozens Across Ukraine

Russian military strikes across Ukraine have killed at least eight people and injured dozens, with several major cities and regions reporting damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure.

The latest attacks have raised renewed concerns over the continuing civilian toll of the Russia-Ukraine war, as strikes involving drones, missiles and aerial bombs continue despite ongoing international efforts to end the conflict.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, at least 22 people were injured in a Russian air strike early Monday. Local authorities said a guided aerial bomb struck a multistorey apartment building, destroying two floors. Six children were among those injured.

Emergency teams and local officials continued assessing the damage as authorities warned that further attacks remained possible.

Deadly Attacks Reported Across Ukraine

Several other regions of Ukraine were also hit during attacks on Sunday.

In the northern city of Sumy, three people, including a 16-year-old girl, were killed in air strikes. A children’s centre was among the facilities damaged in the attack, according to Ukrainian officials.

The southern Odesa region also came under what authorities described as a large-scale attack. One person was killed, while residential buildings and several civilian facilities were damaged. Reported damage included a shop, hotel, medical facility and grain storage warehouse.

Kyiv was also targeted by Russian drones. Local authorities said a woman and two 16-year-olds were injured and taken to hospital.

Officials reported damage to 16 locations in the capital, including 12 homes, a warehouse and a production facility. Authorities said Russian strike drones continued to target the Kyiv region.

Further casualties were reported in the southern Zaporizhia region, where three people were killed in Russian attacks, according to Ukrainian authorities. Another Russian drone attack in Kyiv killed one man.

Ukraine Reports Heavy Russian Air Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia had launched more than 2,200 attack drones, 1,630 aerial bombs and 38 missiles of different types against Ukraine during the previous week.

He also linked the continued drone attacks to the wider diplomatic effort aimed at reducing hostilities. Ukrainian officials have argued that the scale of the attacks is inconsistent with claims that Russia is preparing for meaningful steps toward de-escalation.

The conflict has continued despite international efforts to establish a path toward ending the war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

Russia Reports Strikes on Ukrainian Facilities

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces had struck data centres in Kyiv belonging to Kyivstar and Omega Telecom. Russian officials claimed the facilities were providing services to the Ukrainian military.

The claims come as both countries continue to target infrastructure that they say supports the opposing side’s military operations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said Moscow intended to continue its military campaign. His comments came as international diplomatic efforts to stop the war remained without a major breakthrough.

Ukrainian Drones Target Russian Oil Infrastructure

Ukraine also carried out drone attacks inside Russia.

Ukrainian drones reportedly struck an oil depot in Russia’s Krasnodar region on Monday, causing a large fire at the facility. Local reports identified the site as the Pavlovskaya oil depot.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident at the time.

Ukraine has increased attacks against Russian oil infrastructure in recent weeks. Such facilities have become an important target as Kyiv seeks to disrupt fuel supplies and infrastructure connected to Russia’s military and economy.

Civilian Toll Continues to Rise

The latest attacks highlight the continuing risks faced by civilians on both sides of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Residential buildings, medical facilities, warehouses and other civilian infrastructure have repeatedly been damaged during the fighting.

Both Russia and Ukraine deny deliberately targeting civilians and frequently describe their attacks as strikes against military or strategically important targets.

International organizations have repeatedly raised concerns about the growing humanitarian consequences of the war, while diplomatic efforts led by the United States and other countries have so far failed to produce a lasting ceasefire.

As Russian missile and drone attacks continue across Ukraine and Ukrainian forces increasingly target infrastructure inside Russia, the conflict remains active with no immediate comprehensive settlement in sight.
